Meet Deanna Seay

Miami's Poetic Balanchine Ballerina

For some ballerinas, dancing is primarily about moving, and not so much about thinking.  But for Deanna Seay, Principal Dancer at Miami City Ballet, the thought processes that go into a performance - the artistry in analyzing every movement - are what shape and influence her dancing. The eloquent ballerina explains, "Preparing for a role almost always turns into an exercise in soul searching. This may sound a little corny, but I can't go out on stage without having processed the role bit by bit, exploring all of the nuances and then digesting it all to create something that feels as if it is part of me."

In June of 1972, even though we'd be getting home way past my bedtime, my mother took me to New York for opening night of NYCB's Stravinsky Festival. Anticipation in the lobby was electric. With good reason: the premieres were thrilling. In those days Balanchine was mainly a New York experience, but today it's global. GM Artists worldwide are dancing these magnificent ballets with panache - to critics' acclaim and audiences' delight.

MICHAELA DEPRINCE

Michaela DePrince
Most ballerinas can trace their passion for dance back to a single early memory: a love-at-first-sight moment inspired by music, pink tulle, or satin slippers-perhaps in a theater, maybe in a dance studio. For Michaela DePrince, the introduction to ballet was a remarkable coincidence in the midst of devastation. Just twelve years old, Michaela has already made an extraordinary journey, replete with tragedy, hope, interventions of fate, and sweat-earned triumph.
Gaynor Minden's booth brimmed with visitors in New York this summer when over 800 dance teachers from all across the country descended on the city for Dance Teacher Magazine's Dance Teacher Summer Conference, August 18-20. They were eager to see our products, to learn about our Teacher Rewards Program, and to become Certified Fitters. We conducted six Fitting Seminars in only two days.
